Michaela Strachan – Young Reporter

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Today has been a star studded event for me and my friends, not only did we get to visit the all NEW Lakes Aquarium but we also got to interview Michaela Strachan. Did you know that if she could be any underwater creature she would be a dolphin?

Electro fishing

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Today my team and I went out on a field trip to help South Lakes Rivers Trust carry out fish population surveys for the river Ea. The trip involved electro fishing, this is done by passing a small current through the water to harmlessly stun the fish allowing capture in a net.

A large selection of fish were caught including bullhead, trout, eels, lampreys, salmon, sticklebacks and flounder. These results will then be compared to results gained from a survey carried out in 1994 and will help to evaluate the current condition of the river system.

Room with a view

Friday, September 5th, 2008

The frost and snow has arrived at the aquarium and the outside of the building looks very picturesque. Check out the view from my office window! I am however glad that my office is situated next to the tropical section of the exhibit so I can enjoy the hot temperatures inside while admiring the festive view outside.

Wow it’s Rio Ferdinand

What a fantastic day for the football fans at Lakes Aquarium this weekend!

We had a star studded visit from Rio Ferdinand and his family this weekend and it took a lot of will power for the staff to refrain from racing after him clutching their autograph books.

I'm sure he will go home and tell all his team mates that we are worth a visit.

All staff are keeping an eye out for Wayne Rooney or Paul Scholes!!
