Meet the monkeys!

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Eight-year-old Megan Richardson from Walney, Barrow was treated to a real VIP tour of Lakes Aquarium on Sunday, September 27, thanks to being the winner of a competition.

Megan, a pupil at North Walney Primary School, won her prize after Lakes Aquarium decided to christen two new baby Pygmy Marmosets with the names she suggested.

Megan’s choices of Star and Dinky were based on their tiny size and her belief that they would be stars at the attraction.

Pygmy marmosets are the world’s smallest monkey and at birth only weigh around half an ounce.  Megan’s prize included being able to feed them – an experience she shared with her brother, as both handed over mealworms to the little creatures.

Check out our new frog!

This is a dyeing dart frog and the name comes from the fact that tribes people rub frogs on the skin of young parrots to toxify the skin and cause the parrots feathers to grow back in different colours.

We have no parrots to test the theory but check out this frog as it's bright colours are amazing.
