Lakes Aquarium is closed due to flooding from the Lake

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Lakes Aquarium has regrettably had to close until the early New Year, due to the adverse weather conditions and flooding that has hit Cumbria within the last week.

We hope to resume normal operation as soon as possible and regret any inconvenience caused by circumstances out of our control.

The attraction will be maintaining a vibrant web presence at www.lakesaquarium.co.uk and continuing to communicate with the general public in the weeks leading up to re-opening.

Lakes Aquarium confirms that its creatures were largely unaffected by the flooding, but are being cared for and monitored on a daily basis.

Little otter keepers

Friday, November 20th, 2009

It was a fun day at the aquarium today as members of our Kids Club became little keepers for the day. The children were given exclusive entry inside the enclosure to help Gareth our otter keeper to care for Mia and Smudge. The children helped with cleaning the enclosure, creating special feeding toys and freshening up the straw in the holt. Fun was had by all and the otters got to meet some new friends.

Whelk Lays Eggs

One of our whelks is in the process of laying eggs at the moment. This photograph clearly shows the yellow egg cases. Once the offspring hatch out the egg casings often wash up on the beach and look like spongy yellow brains.
