LAKES AQUARIUM'S CAMPAIGN ROCKS THE PR WORLD
The Lakes Aquarium's public relations consultants, Catapult PR, walked away from the North West Chartered Institute of Public Relations Awards, held in Manchester, on November 19, with Cumbria's only trophy.
Their PR campaign, Crocodiles Rock, was a winner in the Best Consumer PR Campaign Award the most coveted category in most PR agencies eyes. This campaign supported the launch of the Lakes Aquarium's Virtual Dive Bell, as well as providing on-going public relations activity for the Lakeside visitor attraction.
Catapult PR's silver award is its sixteenth award to date and the third PR award it has won for a Cumbrian client. Its work for the North West Farm Tourism Initiative, project managed from Cumbria Tourism, also took it to the national CIPR finals in July 2007, where the consultancy was one of a select few from north of London.
The judges of the 2008 awards commented on Crocodiles Rock having "plenty of lively, creative ideas, including some excellent broadcast media hooks, resulting in a wide spread of cover." They also said the campaign proved "the real value of imagination."
Lakes Aquarium marketing manager, Cathy Burrows, commented: "This is a great boost for the attraction, which has always believed in the value of PR as a marketing tool.
"Through PR we have been able to communicate all of the excitement of a visit to the attraction, the fun that visitors can have watching our fabulous fish and the fantastic range of creatures that visitors can now see, since we made our theme global and focused on lakes around the world."
Catapult PR's managing director, Jane Hunt, added: "We are delighted to win this prestigious award for the Lakes Aquarium, and for Cumbria. Fantastic client support has underpinned our campaign and enabled us to implement some hot ideas and stunts.
