Windermere Relay

Residents and visitors around The Lakes are under starters orders and ready to be quick out of the blocks for the Peter Rabbit™ Windermere Relay, starting on Saturday, June 30.

The fun initiative is the idea of six leading South Lakes visitor attractions, which have worked together to create a family-focused challenge.

The Peter Rabbit™ Windermere Relay asks people to pick up a ‘relay card’ and then collect at least four different stamps on it, from four participating attractions.  They can choose their own starting point, but must post their completed card in the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness.

Stamps can be collected without paying admission at: The World of Beatrix Potter, Lakes Aquarium, Windermere Lake Cruises, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Brockhole – The Lake District Visitor Centre and the Lakeland Motor Museum.

Lakes Aquarium believes it is an ideal starting point, as families visiting its reception desk to collect their stamps could also hop over to collect one from both Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and Windermere Lake Cruises, while at Lakeside.

They could also have a great time at all three, buying a combined ticket to significantly reduce the price paid by purchasing single tickets for each one.

Those who complete their card and post it at the World of Beatrix Potter before the closing date of September 2 2012 will be in contention for Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes. Lucky winners drawn for these prizes will receive wonderful treats.

The Gold prize is a two-night stay for two adults and two children at the award-winning Abbey House Hotel in Barrow-in-Furness, on a bed, breakfast and afternoon tea basis and with spending money of £200.

The Silver Winner will receive a family ticket for the new Brockhole Treetop Trek Adventure and a hamper of fabulous goodies. The Bronze winner will receive a hamper of goodies to enjoy alongside their entrance tickets.  All three winners will get free entry to all six attractions.

Lakes Aquarium’s marketing manager, Cathy Burrows, says: “The message to everyone is to get ready, get set and go. Relay cards will be at Lakes Aquarium from June 30, so the sooner you collect one, the more chance you have of getting your four stamps by the closing date”.
