Young Apprentice 2013
Lakes Aquarium Young Apprentice 2013
Following the success of previous Young Apprentice competitions the search is now on to find the Lakes Aquarium Apprentice 2013.
In 2011 we launched the Young Apprentice competition offering one lucky winner the chance to shadow one of our aquarist and talks team and become a mini expert in the aquatic world. Our 2013 search is just as serious as that of Sir Alan Sugar and there is a trophy up for grabs along with the opportunity to be a creature keeper – a real must for any child who loves animals.
Who can enter?
We are looking for an apprentice aged between 7 – 11 years. Who simply has a love for animals, isn’t squeamish and doesn’t mind helping with the dirty jobs!
How to enter?
Forms are available to download below and need to be emailed to (firstname.lastname@example.org) or posted to Lakes Aquarium. Applicants are invited to tell us in no more than 50 words why they think they would make a good aquarist’s apprentice and which is their favourite aquatic creature and why. Closing date for entries is 17th May 2013.
From all the entries five finalists will be chosen and invited to the Aquarium on Saturday 25th May 2013 for the second part of the competition (they must be available on that day).
Here they will be invited to assist our team in their daily program of talks including information about a giant land snail, and a baby crocodile! The final five will be asked to tell the audience why they think they should be the Lakes Aquarium Young Apprentice 2013. One winner will be selected – the other four will be fired! (well in a nice way!)
Four runners up will each receive goody bags filled with gifts and treats from Lakes Aquarium.
The overall winner will be presented with a trophy and crowned Lakes Aquarium Young Apprentice 2013. They will win a fabulous ‘keeper for a day’ experience spending half a day with the aquarist and talks team. This will involve a variety of behind the scenes activities such as hiding meal worms for the otters, making fruit kebabs for the monkey’s, weighing the baby tortoises and even chopping up squid for the rays! The winner can choose whether to stay on for the ‘keeper experience’ or arrange to come back on another occasion. They will also receive a goody bag.
